The most honest signal a machine has.
A current clamp on a spindle or axis feed cannot be misconfigured into lying. It reports whether the motor is working, how hard, and in what rhythm — on a machine built decades before anyone thought about data.

State without a controller
Spindle current alone separates powered-off, idle and running cleanly on the lab's manual surface grinder. That state is labelled CT derived on every dashboard and report, and a machine whose thresholds were never calibrated says Not Calibrated instead of showing a colour.
Load as a gate and a feature
On the tool grinder, spindle current separates idle passes from contact clearly enough to gate the analysis to the physical cut. Inside the cut, current features feed the wheel-condition model.
Controller load beside the clamp
Where the controller exposes spindle load, power or drive current over OPC UA or MQTT, those are mapped to roles beside the clamp signal — the controller's percent load and the clamp's amperes on one chart, one timebase.

Compared against a level, a raw current waveform crosses it on every cycle. A reduced window crosses it where the cut begins and ends. That difference is the whole design.
