Solution · CNC Machine Monitoring
Know what every machine is doing, and why.
State, program, part counters and alarms straight from the controller; running or idle from a small retrofit sensor on the spindle's power cable where there is no controller connection. One overview, whatever brand is on the control panel.
The problem
What you are up against.
- 01
The new machine can deliver data; the older grinder cannot. Two products, two dashboards, no shared numbers.
- 02
A screen that says 0 % cannot tell you whether the machine is idle or the counter is simply not connected — and that is worse than no screen.
- 03
Unclassified downtime piles up until nobody wants to open the list.
The approach
Connect the controller — or measure the current
Toleron reads data straight from Siemens Sinumerik, Haas and other modern controllers — with a live connection test through the EdgeBox and an automatically found list of everything the controller offers. Where there is no controller connection, a retrofit sensor on the spindle's power cable shows whether the machine is running, and every screen labels that state as measured this way.
Assign once
You assign once which controller value means machine state, program, part counter or alarm — with live values on screen while you do it. Every overview, timeline and report builds on that, so a new controller brand needs an assignment, not a project.
First the overview, then the cause
The shift board shows one tile per machine with state, time in that state, active alarm and the shift's numbers so far, updated the moment something changes. Timelines show what happened — state, downtime, program and alarms, from fifteen minutes to fourteen days — and by dragging across a timeline you classify a month of downtime in minutes.
What we use
- State, program and part counters from the controller
- Alarms with the controller's original text
- Spindle load, speed and feed override from the controller
- Spindle current via a retrofit sensor — for machines without a controller connection
What you get
- One overview across controller brands and machines without a controller connection
- Machine state timeline per shift, with breaks and holidays taken into account
- Alarm archive with the controller's text and the machine it came from
- Downtime events, classified by rules or in bulk by hand
- Utilisation and availability before parts counting is even set up
Tested on
- LabA.Haas Multigrind CB — Siemens Sinumerik 840D sl
- LabHanwha XD38II — Siemens Sinumerik 828D
- LabHaas TL-1 — Haas NGC
- LabZiersch surface grinder — no controller, state from a retrofit sensor on the spindle
Tested on the lab machines in Tuttlingen — proof that it works, not customer references.
